Conserve Space - To help conserve space when packing for a camping trip, consider freezing a few of your bottled waters and place them in your cooler with your perishables. It serves three purpose: - Less space taken up in your vehicle
- Keeps your perishables chilled
- Water is still cold when you want to drink it - just leave it out of the cooler for a little while and it will melt as you drink it.
| |
Freeze Water - Similar to using your bottled water, how about filling an empty half-gallon milk container and freeze it. Use it o put in your cooler to keep your perishables chilled. Note, don't fill the bottle up all the way to the top as the water does expand when frozen and could burst the container. You could also use any other lidded plastic container that will fit into your cooler.

Keep a dry cooler - Try packing your perishables in one cooler using the frozen bottled water technique to keep everything chilled. This way you don't have ice melting and filling the bottom of the cooler with water. The frozen bottles will stay frozen/cold a lot longer. Then have a separate cooler for all your drinks. This one you can fill with all the ice you want.

More Overall Campsite Lighting - Using a length of sturdy cord, tie a heavy object to one end and throw it over a high branch in a tree. Remove the heavy object and tie the cord to the handle of your lantern - make sure the loose end of the knot is short so it doesn't dangle near the lantern flame. Pull the lantern up as high as you want and tie the other end of the cord to the tree trunk or another low branch.

Bear Problems - Have you had bears that like to visit your campsite or suspect they might want to join you sometime? Try pouring ammonia around the perimeter of your site. It seems they don't seem to care for the smell. If you can think of other creative ways to provide ammonia, do so. And of course keep in mind you will still have to properly store your food items.

Mosquitos Bite - Are you one of those people that if there is a mosquito within a mile it will find you? Try taking Vitamin B. Apparently this helps put off something in the skin that mosquitos like to stay away from.
| |
Mosquitos In Your Tent - Problem with mosquitos on your tent? Hang one Bounce fabric softner in two opposite corners of your tent. The mosquitos apparently don't like this addition to your tent and stay clear. When you break camp, leave the fabric softerners in place. The next time you open your tent it will have a fresh smell to start your next camping experience.

Squirrels Love Peanutbutter - Did you know squirrels love peanuts and peanutbutter - even more than the other snacks you pack. This might be something you want to leave home or make sure you pack the peanuts in a good closed container and then in a heavy duty plastic storage container. They have been known to chew through plastic to get at the peanuts and peanutbutter.

Colored Lights - Add some colored lighting to your campsite. Buy some colored clear plastic cups and place tea lights inside. Place them around the campsite to make an evening walkway, circle your camp or place them on your table. Mix colors for a festive campsite.
| |
Popcorn Lovers - You can have microwave popcorn at your campsite. Place the microwave popcorn package, correct side down, in a skillet. Cover it loosely with aluminum foil to help hold the heat in and turn the stove on to medium. Shake the skillet frequently until the popcorn is ready. Enjoy!

Campsite Cooking - If you are a gourmet cook and like preparing a scrumptious meal at your campsite, pack all your favorite spices in a tackle box. You can neatly pack them so they are easily available and not lost in the bottom of a larger container. If you camp regularly, leave them packed and they are ready for the next adventure. Salt and Pepper - Now you can buy salt and pepper in Grinders that make it convenient to use at campsite without the problem of humidity clogging your shakers. There are other spices that also come in grinders that are great for camping. Wash Your Dishes Without a Mess - Don't bother packing a bottle of liquid dish detergent that may leak or spill all over your other items. Get a few of the small wash pads that already have soap in them. When finished washing dishes, let them dry out and repack in a zip lock bag or simply throw them away after a few uses. Biscuits Please - Who said you can't have biscuits with your campsite breakfast. Buy the cans of biscuits, keep them chilled in the cooler of course until ready to use, open the can and place the biscuits in a skillet or on a griddle. Turn the stove on to medium and let the biscuits turn golden brown on the bottom, turn them over and do the same. You will see the biscuits rise some. When both sides are brown, pull the biscuit apart - the middle will not be quite done yet. Place the two center sides down on the griddle and brown - Two bisquits from one. Now serve with your packaged breakfast gravy, bacon, eggs, applebutter and enjoy! Mosquito Time - If it is mosquito time of the year, it's best to spray your campsite when you first arrive with an insect fogger. Spray where you are going to place your tent and around the perimeter of your campsite. Also, light your citronella candles in the late afternoon to start filling the air with the repellant - don't wait until dusk or dark to light them. If the mosquitos still bother you, spray exposed skin with a good insect repellent. A nice campfire also helps keep the mosquitos away.
